Green Smoothies

This is my new Blend Tec blender with a brain. Ingredients here include frozen peaches, kale, cucumbers, carrots, yams, banana, blueberries, cranberries, apple, grape juice.
My old Osterizer, good for basic fruit and soft greens.

Green Smoothie girl uses ice and water in hers.  I use frozen fruit and juice.  For a purple smoothie, I use frozen blueberries or blackberries, organic home grown dark grape juice.   Sometimes I use frozen peaches. It is an adventure each Time.  I choose from a selection of essential oils:  Lime, Lemon, Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit. Each batch turns out different. (If you need to order small bottles of these essential oils, let me know.  They are $4 each).

Green Smoothie Grandma's   Basic recipe: (For a 5-6 cup blender jar). (This can be done in an "ordinary" blender.) (This makes over a quart of smoothie, containing SIX servings of fruit/vegetables)

4 C. of fresh greens.  I use a combination of spinach and kale. In the summer, I will use mint and comfrey, too.  The kale can be frozen.
1 -2 C. of frozen fruit  (I use mostly peaches, blueberries or strawberries)
1 banana, cut in pieces
1 apple, cored, peeled and cut in pieces.  (You can leave the peel on if you want)
2 C. juice (I use my home grown grape juice) Can use any of the following: white grape, dark grape, orange, apple, pineapple.
2 Tbl. Udo's oil blend (for omega 3)  or my new favorite Coconut Oil.
2 t. real vanilla extract (optional)
1/2 - 1 t. stevia powder  OR 2 Tbl. agave for sweetening
1/2 t. fresh ginger root
Optional: 3 drops essential oil (I use lime, lemon, orange, tangerine or grapefruit)
Optional: 1/2 C. sprouted wheat or wheat grass

Other optional ingredients include:    dates, figs, pineapple, kiwi, oranges, tangerines, clementines, melons, avocados, zucchini, cucumbers, jicama, lemon, cranberries, pomegranate, grapes, beets, papaya, mango, pears, plums…

Now that I have my Super blender, I can add hard vegetables such as carrots, yams, celery, beets, or Jerusalem artichokes.  Peel and/or cut in small pieces.

"super food" additions include: acai, aloe vera, bee pollen, chia seeds, coconut, flax seeds, soaked almonds, kefir or yogurt

Blend all ingredients on "Pulse". Or use the "Whole Food--Smoothie" program option. Stir if needed.  Add more liquid if needed.  However, it liquifies fairly fast.  Consume immediately or place in refrigerator.  Stores up to 48 hours.

Once I pour into my glass, I have been adding 3 Tbl. of chia seeds and stirring them in.  I like the thickness and "crunch".
